Look at those cute crocodiles in the picture above. Having a great time with their little radio and home-made antenna, really cozy stuff! You wish that could be you? Then you’re in luck, as right now, the Student Society in Trondheim, “Samfundet”, has it’s biannual admission period.
Have you ever seen the large antennas on the roof of Samfundet, then you have already gotten a glimpse of what we do! We are the student ham radio club in Trondheim and utilize such antennas to reach all over the world, sometimes even outer space. Not to be confused with radio broadcasting, which only goes one way, in 2-way radio we communicate back and forth, with strangers and new friends. There is also a competitive scene with radio contests. LA1K eagerly participates throughout the year at these, with the cabin trip “Field Day” being the most popular.
ARK is one of the oldest groups at Samfundet, being founded in 1923. In fact, many of the other technical groups such as FK, ITK and VK originated in ARK, before being separated into independent ones later. The innovation is still happening, and the club has it’s own electrical workshop in the club areas for the curious who wants to experiment and put their projects into fruition.
No prior technical knowledge is required to apply! Every semester we also host a radio license course, free of charge, open to anyone who’s interested in learning the ins and outs of ham radio. If you pass the exam at the end of the course you’re also issued your very own radio license! With a license you’re also allowed to build your own equipment, such as a radio, antennas and amplifiers – why not give it a try in our workshop?
We accept applications on email and coffee filters too, but the preferred way to apply is through Samfundet’s own applicant portal. The deadline to apply is 19th of January at 23:59 o’clock and we hope to see your application in our inbox!
