Welcome back to the second part of our QSL-card series. This time we’ll be looking at QSL-cards from our secondary call signs. While we may use that term very broadly for the occasion, simply put it includes any call, prefix and suffix that we may continue to use. For the use and history of the calls themselves, please look at the earlier post about our call signs.
LN1K

Singlesided card from the start of the LN-prefix. With a short history lesson on the right beginning in 2002, the first QSO in our archives is from 2003. The emblem of our club was redesigned in 2004 as well, so this card was printed in a very short timespan!
A new, updated version with printing on both sides. It’s the same image and layout as the LA1K-card from 2011, except for a very tiny call in the upper left corner. This card is what we still use today for the call LN1K. The call is being used a lot for RTTY modes, so it may be our second most used call per year, in terms of total QSOs in the log.
LA1UKA
The name reveal of the student festival “UKA” (The Week), captured here in 2009 for “Skabaré”. ARK has been responsible for creating a lit-up sign for every festival since the 1930’s, so of course it would be a proper fit to have it pictured on the QSL-card.
Concert from the festival UKA-11 with the artist Robyn on stage. This card was printed the following year in 2012, and as we still have some cards left, it’s still our current card for LA1UKA.
LA1KA
Although LA1KA was retired in 1997, we still have the card from the early 90’s. Since it served the same purpose as a secondary call, being the first overall, we thought it would be a good fit to include it here …even though it may counter the original statement in the very first paragraph. The design of the card itself is identical to the one of LA1K at the time, click the arrow to have a look.
LA1K/P
As we don’t have unique cards for the suffix /P, some of the cards sent out may or may have not have a poorly cut sticker on the front, like the example above. It’s more likely cards received will just have the suffix added on with a black marker on the back instead (author speaking from experience as an earlier QSL-manager). The LA1K/P call is mostly used during the Field Day contest in September, as most portable trips with LA1K are usually SOTA, which don’t utilize the club call signs. Perhaps a unique NFD-card will make it to print some day instead for the purpose.
For those of you who read the post about the call signs, you may have noticed that LA1ARK and LA1YLS are not represented with a QSL-card this week. As far as we know, we are all out of LA1ARK cards, and we haven’t done a redesign as we don’t receive enough cards for the call. From the recollection of one of the earlier QSL managers, the LA1ARK card previously used the exact same form as the 2014 LN1K design as seen above. ARK usually only send out to cards received with “PSE”, and the need for a refill currently isn’t that great. As for LA1YLS, the author overheard it’s currently in the works.
Thanks to LA6YKA for the scan of the older cards shown in this article. Next in the series we’ll have a look at the cards for the different special call signs, 73.
